IISW 2013 Timetable Announced
2013 International Image Sensor Workshop tentative schedule has been announced. The workshop is to be held on June 12-16, 2013 in Snowbird, Utah, USA.
Just taking a look at google map, this place is so isolated... How get there? Will IISW provides heli-taxi service? :)
ReplyDeleteOne flies to Salt Lake City, Utah (SLC) which has a large airport (and is a Delta airlines hub). You can rent a car and be at Snowbird in about an hour, or you will be able to reserve a shuttle bus ($37 each way). Isolated but not so far from a major metropolitan airport and easy transportation. I think easier than the last meetings in Maine, Norway and Japan, actually.
ReplyDeleteJust curious - who/how does one decide on these locations? Went to both Maine and Norway conferences, and the locations were beautiful, but you are pretty much stuck there if you don't have a car. I think in general it is a great idea to pick resorts as it gives the IISW conference a sense of "uniqueness", but there other resorts that have more to offer outside of the resort gates.
ReplyDeleteWell, we are interested in people that are coming for the entire workshop and who will contribute to the discussion and edification of all attendees. It is also the reason why we all stay at the same hotel and eat all the meals together. It is a workshop rather than conference. There are other meetings such as ISSCC or IEDM or SPIE meetings that may offer the outside entertainment that you are looking for.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I had a great time with my family in Norway before and after the meeting, and just with my colleagues in Japan after the meeting. Utah is a fantastic destination for a family vacation. Within 6-8 hrs driving you can reach Yellowstone National Park or the Grand Canyon National Park, and in less time you can reach Zion, Bryce or Arches National Parks. It is quite a scenic part of the U.S. if you enjoy that kind of experience.
Las Vegas is a 6-7 hour drive as well. A different sort of scene for sure.
To answer your question specifically, the locations are proposed by the General Chair(s) and approved by the Executive Committee of IISS.
Eric, please continue this way! I find that it's a great pleasure to stay in the same hotel, eat the same meal and also be nu in the hot spring bath together too :) There is workshop like this in the world as I know.
ReplyDeleteEric, why should it be Thursday to Sunday instead of the more regular and reasonable Monday to Thrusday?
ReplyDeleteMostly tradition at this point (27 years), but most employers are happier if the impact on work days is less and the employee is also putting some skin in the game.
ReplyDeleteRight, moreover, if the people are overloaded with information and brand new ideas till Sunday, they can get right away into their offices on Monday morning and immediately apply everything they learned and heard at the workshop.
ReplyDeleteOr, they are so much overloded with information (plus alcohol) and suffer from jet-lag, that they decide to take a nap for the next 3 days ;).
ReplyDeleteAssumes they can fly that fast!
