Omnivision CameraCube Apparently in Nokia N8

My Nokia Blog published Nokia N8 disassembly where both front and rear side camera modules are seen. The front camera module looks like surface mounted Omnivision's CameraCube.

Thanks to J.S. who noticed this and sent me the link!

Update: It looks like I jumped to Omnivision conclusion too fast - there are other possible options, as said in comments. The original N8 internals pictures are on FCC site. The photos are dated by April 1, 2020 - hope government agencies do not joke and this is the only mistake in this doc.

  3. It also looks like a Samsung, STM or Toshiba in a Tessera OptiML WLC VGA camera module. It's a small square block with a tiny lens.

  4. how about heptagon or anteryon, one of which i believe already has a relationship with nokia for wafer level optics.

omnivision's camera cube is just a packaging technology similar to tessera's optiml it just took omni a bit alonger than tessera to get its act together. last i heard, omni was at 1 mp and tessera was at 3mp.

i am getting sick of all the hype surrounding omni. that company should spend more time innovating and less time spreading hype. remember how wavefront coding was suppose to turn the optics world upside down and we have not seen hide nor hare of it in almost 5 years.

so much for cdm and omni!

  5. 80 million WCL modules were shipped last year alone. What makes anyone think this one is Omnivisions?

The internal photos pdf file is dated by April 1, 2020. Hope this is not an April Fools joke.

  10. That makes sense, Heptagon shipped its 100 millionth wsl this year and Nokia already uses the Heptagon/STM/Soitec wlc's in its other phones.

  13. OV supplies to Nokia. It is great. Someone should forward it to Nokia ASAP

I believe that OV can put their sensor on E72.
