Viimagic Sees Interest to its Products in China

OpenPR: After Shanghai and Shenzhen shows viimagic sees an interest in the new global shutter HDTV sensors in China. The new 2MP sensors in 2/3” optical format deliver 1080p video at frame rates up to 240fps. With DDS (correlated Digital Double Sampling) processing, frame rates up to 120 fps are achievable. Operated in HDR modes the new viimagic product realizes a dynamic range of more than 120dB.

Some customers started already to specify a system concept for applying viimagic global shutter sensors. It shows also that high quality CMOS sensors with high frame rates become more and more important for numerous applications in China.

  1. How do these sensors compare with CMOSIS' CMV2000?
    Price, performance, ...

  2. it should be much better. it's for studio camera normally...

  3. Can it do DDS in global shutter mode? The product brief is not clear on that..

  4. The product brief is mixed with global and rolling shutter. It is not clear what spec is for what mode.

  5. On their web-site they state that 120 fps are achievable in global-shutter-mode

  6. 120 fps in GS: Indeed, which does not say that DDS is involved - given the time DDS takes, I would assume not.

But the real question remains; what dark noise levels does this chip reach in global shutter mode. The 6e- surely must be in rolling shutter mode...

  7. My mistake -120 fps is WITH DDS.

    Real question remains..

  8. DDS is done off chip so it doesn't mather if it runs in global or roling shutter mode as far as I can tell.

  9. on pricing/performance vs. cmosis, noise is lower, DR is higher, SNRmax is higher, 12-bit is there at the maximum frame rate. Viimagic wins on all counts.

Pixel size and resolution are similar, they're both small players so their wafer prices are similar, package looks equaly bulky so it is reasonable to assume cost is the same.

Meeting the noise in GS needs external memory, but for anyone paying this much for a sensor that should be a don't care.
