Sony Announces New CCDs, BSI Sensor

Sony Cx-News Vol. 71 has few new announcements.

1/2.3-inch ICX699SQB 16.15MP CCD is based on 1.34um pixels and supports 720/30fps video. The peripheral drive circuits (CDS/ADC/driver/timing generator/peripheral parts) are integrated into the same package. As a result, power consumption has improved from 348mW to 270mW, a 22% power consumption saving when compared to a multiple packages configuration:

The 1/2-inch ICX828 and ICX829 "EXview HAD CCD II" target security cameras market and has a resoltion of NTSC and PAL, respectively. They "provide a significantly improved focusing of light onto the photodiodes due to an increased aperture ratio and an improved upper section structure. Thanks to these improvements, the new products have approximately 6 dB greater sensitivity, a vast improvement over the existing" products. Also, the saturation is said to be improved by a factor of 1.4.

The 1/8.3-inch BSI CMOS sensor IMX188PQ delivers 720p60 video and is based on 1.4um pixel. It's aimed to thin laptop computers, smartphones and smart TV markets. Comparing to a previous generation 1.4up pixel product, its power consumption has been reduced by 35%, down to 45mW (720p30 mode) and NNR improved by 4dB, primarily at low-light. CRA is also increased from 25 deg to 30deg.
