the two people walking int he video have no detectable night vision equipment on them...
they also do not have any obvious illumination devices (flashlights?)....
yet, in the supposed pitch black darkness, they are making their way down an unlit dirt road with no apparent caution... as if they were walking in daylight.
I see many indicators to positively show that this was shot at night, the stars and water marking illuminating are a few. Very good quality imho, considering its appears to be in full frame rate and in true color.
Most certinely this is a night shot, too many lights around not to be. If if was faked someone spent an awful lotta time altering a video, if you notice the gain and level of the sensor tweaking down to accept higher light levels. The quality of the image actually looks excellent, I bet this camera though is out of reach price-wise for normal folk, scientific, military and "special projects" groups will buy then in large numbers if they are under $30k.
In the same frame that you see the people walking you can see along the path in the foreground a concrete wall with some sort of metal railing. The railing casts a shadow from a light source from above which is probably the moon. I suspect that SPI chose a well moonlit night so that they could get a better demo and the reason why those people are walking down the path with no flashlights.
What is tricky in all these videos is the apparence of stars in the blue sky. Maybe the illumination level on the ground is not low... Anyway after having asking all the imaging friends in US, no one believes these videos.
I very much have a use for this technonolgy, Sebastian. The quality looks very good, I'm calling them on Monday to get a live night evaluation demonstration. Ciao
Quite impressive imagery, color night vision is a difficult task to achieve, even if there were some illumination as it seems like there was some normal night lighting, pretty cool. Night vision technology is evolving pretty rapidly, with new hybrid sensors and technologies currently available, I see this arena expanding. Low light cameras in color will eventually take over black and white ones
They need to put an additional channel filming the same scene with a known system such as a Sony A7s for example to provide some kind of comparison.
