ULIS’ 17µm Gen2 Thermal Sensor Used by Bertin Technology

ALA News: ULIS announces the selection of its VGA 17um Gen2 thermal sensor in Bertin Technology’s FusionSight camera. “Bertin Technology’s choice of ULIS’ VGA 17µm 640x480 thermal image sensor is further evidence of the true competitiveness and sustainability of our 17 micron Gen2 products, designed to offer peak performance, environmental hardiness and reductions in the overall cost of system ownership,” said Emmanuel Bercier, senior marketing manager at ULIS.

    2. Is it really 20k euro?

    3. Seems reasonable for such a device, thermal and low light technologies are not cheap

  2. Thats a VERY NICE sensor system, so far I have only seen the small night vision head mounted ones, a nice longer range version is welcome to the market space, kudos to the Bertin company for coming out with a device like this, quite frankly i dont know why no one else has introduced such a device like this 5 years ago.

  3. LLL color nightvision is pretty new that's probably why. the LWIR bolometers (17um) are a generation behind the 12um systems...juxtaposition of availability and cost have made this possible...not the raw technology.

  4. Also, notice it is MUCH bigger than the ENVG system from the US. The other take-away is that you still need two different optical paths--one for the Vis-NIR and the other for the LWIR. Maybe someday they can get around this with appropriate LWIR lens materials...but for now it is a dream so you are stuck with multiple extra grams of optical materials that make the package larger and the system heavier and more costly.

  5. Interested to see video from this camera, in thier clip you see an image for 3 seconds which does not look very impressive, I welcome companies putting out such devices for home-land defense and security
