LiFi Basics and Recent Progress

SPIE publishes a video by Harald Haas of University of Edinburgh and pureLiFi Ltd. explaining LiFi basics and the recent progress:

  1. Would only be practically OK for read-only stationary devices that can get the light. I was thinking this would work best for heavy video streaming but really.... who wants a light bulb in their living/theater room during a movie.

    Live of sight is a big problem, and this tech needs to be supplemented by wireless we use now for data return path, which could be OK at lower speeds.

  2. Surely the frequency would be infra red, obviating the light bulb issue.
    Presumable the light could be scattered but still detected, so LoS should be unnecessary.
