Teledyne-e2v Presents 1.3MP TOF Sensor

e2v ToF BORA sensor has 10um pixels and 1.3MP resolution:

  • One single sensor enabling a 1.3MP 2D high definition image and several 3D depth resolutions
  • Binning allows VGA and QVGA 3D depth map
  • HDR for lower noise and better accuracy at long distance
  • Long distance range: (0.5m to 5m) or (5m to 50m)
  • 3D detection from fast moving objects

  1. This is news? It has already been for ages on their webpage...

    1. Possibly. I have not seen it up to now. The flyer is dated by Oct. 2018.

  3. What about demodulation contrast vs. modulation frequency? The specs don't really link to ToF. Any what pixel concept they're using?

    1. The data sheet gives information on achievable distance error without saying anything about employed optics or light source. Considering that they try to sell a sensor and not a camera this makes absolutely no sense at all. Anybody can achieve any performance if they use welding lasers and telescope lenses... Please either provide sensor performance such as demodulation contrast or if you really want to spec camera parameters provide information on what optics, lasers and computing power is required.

Come to hear my talk at Image Sensors London coming week. It will focus on those kind of silly specs you find all over the place in datasheets. I will analyze the specs of a well-known, famous sensor of a leading company and compare them with measurements in a real camera. The gap between both can be pretty large. If there was such a gap between your actual salary and the one your boss promised you, you would immediately go to his/her office to complain (=understatement) !

    3. That sounds really interesting. For those, who won't have a chance to come to London next week, do you have a publication on this topic or the slides of the talk, or will there be a video online?

At this moment nothing of this talk is available on-line. But this can change quickly ;-)
