    1. Its out in the wild, a samsung smart home device was posted here recently. Not ascommon as CIS, but event sensors will find their niche

    2. its actually cool to play with event sensors, well if you have time ;-) I had the chance to participate in a small project testing a Davis-240 evalboard in the context of a robot application. We had a few problems with the realtime link to the actuators (not only but also due to our design...) but if you can for example calculate "with a few ms lag" you get a really high res temporal information. As spatial and temporal resolution of this devices grow and a few consumer applications drive the volume, event sensors can get quite interesting I think.
