Sony Presents 9MP and 12.4MP Global Shutter Sensors

Sony 3.45um global shutter pixel, said to be the smallest in the industry, is the base of two new sensors: IMX253LLR/LQR 1.1-inch 12.37MP and IMX255LLR/LQR 1-inch 8.95MP, available in both monochrome (LLR) and color (LQR) versions.


The company's Youtube video shows global shutter advantages:

  1. it seems that the image of quality of GS sensor is still inferior to that of RS sensor, at least on this video.

    Is it Automotive ready?
    (I guess Automotive is asking for Global Shutter?)

  4. Why they would prefer rolling shutter? Motion is an issue for detection with rolling shutter, no?

  7. Stereo processing, especially with rapidly moving objects, I believe is much aided by global shutter.
