Omnivision Unveils VGA GS Sensor with Lightguide

PRNewswire: OmniVision announces a 3um pixel OV7251-2B global shutter sensor with shutter efficiency of 99.96% for machine vision applications. The cost-effective OV7251-2B achieves that by adding a new lightguide feature that improves the angular response of light capture for better system-level optical performance.

"We are improving on our widely deployed family of global shutter VGA sensors by providing a drop-in replacement for our prior generation sensor that offers an even better level of shutter efficiency with no design changes required," said Devang Patel, senior staff marketing manager for the security and emerging segments at OmniVision. "Additionally, our new lightguide feature improves the family's capture capabilities with better light confinement for higher system level optical performance."

    It would be great to have some data about PLS as a function of chief ray angle. Up to now I have seen those kind of numbers only from one single company.

    1. And most company choose to use the green light, center area for SE/PLS. But real application is 850/940nm, and surrounding area will be worse.

  2. Interesting that OVT highlights its shutter efficiency. 99.96% is 1/2500, for similar pitch ON (XGS 3.2um) is ~1/5000, Gpixel (GMAX, 3.2um) is ~1/10000, SONY (Gen3 3.45um) is 1/50000.

    1. I guess you do not understand global shutter.0.1um mean big gap in PLS, which also will cause price. Their 2.2um ones is 1/10^8, but that one is higher price.

  3. CRA around 30° - thats not for machine vision. For wide angle M12 lenses maybe, but not for c-mount lenses. The EPD in MV is far away from this sensor and the CRA is typically 5° to 12°
    The max exposure is a frametime. What? No chance for longer integration times? Weired... these limitations. I think this sensor is intended for driver / in-cabin monitoring in automotive.
