As Lindsay Grant shows on his LinkedIn page, he has left ST Imaging after 16 years, and joined Omnivision in Santa Clara, CA as VP of Process Engineering.
Yes, maybe these guys are hired for talking and show how OVT is an international company. Nothing is more worth than the Chinese origined designers at OVT back office!
I think the fact that SPADs made it from the laboratory to the consumer market via smartphone adoption is quite impressive and recent. It says a lot for process engineering work. Let's try to not judge people by their company affiliation. I know for a fact that Johannes (and the former Oslo Photobit team), Boyd, and Lindsay were all motivated by new challenges and probably a bump in pay grade and title. I hope their moves work out for them. Also, the number of places my image sensor technology students can find jobs in the US is decreasing. Perhaps now OVT will consider them as well.
Oh please.....OVT cannot see beyond next quarterly results. They are not coming close to capital spend in R & D as Sony or Samsung. Their vision is just one quarter out with zero effort on their future roadmap. Their model is just about fulfilling second tier China phones and not much else.
Johannes, Boyd, Lindsay.... well, at least Omnivision has good taste in hiring.
ReplyDeleteare you next?
Deletehaha! Even with money from China? Please make a try... :)-
DeleteIt's not a good sign for other CIS companies that all these guys join OVT! It's a problem for SONY and Samsung, no?

Deletea good quality sensor would be worth more, until then... 'no'.
DeleteI really really doubt these high quality people are there for show only.
I believe OVT wants to up their sensor quality to battle in the premium spectrum and they are getting high quality talent to lead the way.
Alongside these heroes, other experts, working hard in the shadows, are also preparing the future...
ReplyDeleteplease stay in the shadows. Thanks!
DeleteHow can these guys jump from STM CIS business suddenly to their competitor OVT? STM may thinks that their value is limited?
ReplyDeleteWhy?? When was last good sensor from STM? 2? 3years ago? more??

DeleteIndeed, main stream CIS is now more and more alike DRAM business. Do you agree Eric?
DeleteCan you give examples of commercially available CMOS SPAD cameras out on the market today?
