JPL image sensing leader Shouleh Nikzad has been elected to the rank of Fellow in the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). The NAI Fellows Selection Committee chose her for induction as she “demonstrated a highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society.”
Many congratulations in the name of the International Image Sensor Society !
ReplyDeleteIt is great to have another imaging engineer on the podium.
thank you Albert and the IISS -- great organization
DeleteCongratulations Shouleh! FYI - Shouleh’s inventive work (e.g., US 9,123,622 etc.) on extending the UV response in CCDs and more recently, CMOS image sensors, using low temperature MBE and CVD techniques has been incorporated into new imaging instruments (e.g., HabEx, LUVOIR) thus enabling new science in space and on Earth. The techniques have also been adapted to particle detectors for space physics. Her separate body of work on the practical implementation of curved focal plane arrays and image sensors (e.g., US 7,786,421) has been licensed to several companies, and there is large interest in the imaging/camera communities for this type of device.
ReplyDeleteThe NAI seeks to celebrate academic inventors and leaders in technology innovation and translation. Many universities don't recognize invention etc. as something equal to writing papers and books and NAI seeks to shift that perspective through this recognition process. Recognition at the Fellow level is fairly selective, with about 150 Fellows in all fields (engineering, science, medicine and academic administration) being chosen this year. I am a Board member of the NAI. see: http://www.academyofinventors.org/fellows.asp
Thank you Eric for the kind words and for the background information.
