Kanazawa University, Japan published a paper on pseudo-random pixel placed sensor presented at 2009 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ISPACS 2009) December 7-9, 2009:
A CMOS Image Sensor with Pseudorandom Pixel Placement for Clear Imaging
Yui Maeda and Junichi Akita
The random pixel placement is supposed to solve artifacts problem of regular lattice-placement of pixels:
Unfortunately, paper does not discuss the most interesting part - how to make this pseudo-random placement in color. And how to interpolate the color picture out of irregular Bayer pattern where color crosstalk changes from one pixel to another.
