The random pixel placement is supposed to solve artifacts problem of regular lattice-placement of pixels:
Unfortunately, paper does not discuss the most interesting part - how to make this pseudo-random placement in color. And how to interpolate the color picture out of irregular Bayer pattern where color crosstalk changes from one pixel to another.
some works have been published before by using randomly arranged micro-facette layer on the sensor .... in this case, no special signal processing is needed ...
