Because this is done with a convetional camera module, it only offers macro re-focusing. Since everything is in focus from 70-100 cm to infinity, they cannot create a depth map for anything beyond those 70-100 cm. Hence this is very far from what can be done with any lightfield or array camera solution. Demo was still quite nice, though
How lame. This work at 15 cm and with non moving objects. It doesn't require heavy processing. There are several iPhone apps that do this exactly.

ReplyDeleteThey need to be able to do it when am object is at 50-100 cm and background is blurry. This close range they show is useless for 99% of users.
