Yole Developpement publishes its thoughts on the recent Apple acquisition of LinX Imaging. Yole believes that computational imaging is moving toward the mainstream, and dual cameras will appear in many products:
This is unusually fluffy for a Yole piece. The author should know that the multi-camera space is littered with failures and pivots created after the initial simplistic enthusiasm faces the reality. I would not call Linx "an early-stage startup" - they had been around for years and did not seem to be doing so well. As for "Apple’s snatching up of such an early-stage startup is also a sign of the times." it feels less of a snatch up and more of a fire sale.
