There is one additional point in having a CMOS type of readout at the sensor. You get digital numbers out of the sensor that you can transport quite well in a way that the same numbers enter the end of the signal chain. In case of CCD/analog signal output you have a voltage that can change due to distortion on the wire/cable before it reaches the ADC. In case of a fiberoptic you transport even the primary signal before it enters the image sensor. I dont know about endoscopes at all but worked with PAL cameras already - in a robotic application. Its a headache to have an analog signal on a cable in a robot...
ok, I meant there are these 3 steps - transport light or voltage or digital numbers through endoscope. In the ams "Naneye" or Optasensor (http://image-sensors-world.blogspot.com/2020/01/ex-awaiba-team-founds-optasensor-and.html) sensors for example the sensor output is digital (as far as I know...).
What are the pros and cons of using a fiber optic endoscope vs an endoscopic sensor?
ReplyDeleteFiber diameter is much larger than a pixel size, and so is the sensor compared to the fiberoptic cable.
ReplyDeleteSorry Andrey, didn't quite understand what you mean. Can you please rephrase?
DeleteI mean that an endoscope with a sensor can be made much thinner than a fiberoptic one.

ReplyDeleteIt is not the case with this sensor. It is analog output, not digital.
