For those of you who want to know all ins and outs of the SWIR technologies/applications/limitations, please check out the Forum 2023 page of Harvest Imaging at www.harvestimaging.com/forum_introduction_2023_new.php The Forum will be held in April 2023, and speaker will be prof. Pierre MAGNAN, a world-level expert in the field of near-IR imaging. Albert.
interesting presentation. Yole misses one application that might add to the industrial volume - the ability to look through silicon. There are a new applications for this that are currently emerging (e.g. in 3d integration steps like die to die/wafer hybrid bonding). And one reason why the IMX990 is competitive is again missed. The pixel pitch is the least important argument in my opinion. Price a bit more. Integrateability is one of the key arguments. The interface of IMX990 is very similar to the pregius family. You can run it with nearly the same hard/soft/firwmare, start with a lot of tested blocks if you already have electronics for e.g. the IMX250. This is one of the reasons why suddenly you see this sensor at all industrial camera vendors. It is a matter of a few weeks of effort to get a ingaas camera. l It is not the pixel performance, but the fact that it is easy to use and predictable to implement that makes imx990 attractive. You can also run the sensor in a similar form factor camera, uncooled like the pregius in many applications (maybe I just see the uncritical ones in the environment I'm in touch with...). But from my point of view it is surprising to notice how the sensor vendors overestimate the importance of pixel performance and underestimate the importance of integrateability for the business success of their product.
not true, i'm just working on image sensor integration, from many vendors, since lm9638, so guess how old i am;-) no other relation to sony other than working for a customer of one of their distributors. i like other vendors as well, everyone has its good sides and flaws. a cis interface helps in succrsful integration

ReplyDeleteSounds like Sony marketing personnel.
