Dblur EDoF Camera Module Mass Produced by Sunny Group

PR.com: Dblur announced that 3.2MP 1/4” EDoF camera module integrating its technology has entered mass production by Sunny Group, China. Sunny has been mass producing it since January 2009 and is incorporating the Dblur enabled camera module in numerous mobile phones.

Thanks to G.M. for letting me know.

  1. Man, three press releases in a week. They mus be hungry for publicity :)

  2. I agree.. They're centainly in weak position when compared with DxO and Tessera.
    Who's their customer?

  3. Weak position !??? It's time to wake up ... In addition to their agreement with Sunny Group, the 2 first EDoF camera modules manufactured by STMicro use D-Blur solution. Reason is that DxO's optics has some issues with operating temperature range, and their post processing requires many more gates. I don't know about Tessera though.

  4. I hadn't heard about an temperature range issue with DXO (although I'm not sure this makes sense based on my undestanding of their chromatic aberration approach), but they do seem to require less gates than others, rather than more.

  5. Very interesting ... Could you share a bit more info on this temperature limitation of DxO's method?

  6. Perhaps an explanation is to be found in the fact that plastic optics greatly increase the difficulty in controlling chromatic aberration - across a wide temperature range - because of their greater thermal expansion and greater thermal variation of index of refraction than glass? This kind of pratical problems is inherenty solved using Wavefront Coding -> no adaptive filtering required.

Regarding the HW cost comparison for the digital post-processing, can someone give some figures ?

  7. Is Dblur profitable yet?

  8. In June 2008, as part of the transition fom development to engineering and support for mass production, Dblur cut 9 jobs from its workforce of 30. Dblur must be profitable now.

DxO also plans to lay off 15-20% of its workforce by mid-2009.

  9. Any info on DxO revenues in the last quarter or last year anyone? Thanks.
