Aptina Announced 14MP HD Video Sensor

Business Wire #1, #2: Aptina emphasizes HD video performance in its new 1.4um pixel 14MP sensor. The 1/2.3-inch MT9F011 mobile camera image sensor leverages A-Pix Technology and delivers 1080p/60fps HD video. The HD video optimized features include low power consumption, a four-lane MIPI data interface, Bayer resample for improved video, and 25 degree chief ray angle to minimize module height.

Aptina A-Pix technology is said to provide sensitivity that is BSI-equivalent, yet with less crosstalk, lower noise and more accurate color reproduction. Samples of the MT9F011 are currently available with mass production expected in Q2 2010.

  1. Full HD is only 1920x1080 = 2MP, why they need 14MP sensor for this application ??

  2. Small pixel pure HD cameras seems to become extinct species. Most (all?) new cameras are hybrids marring high resolution stills with video. So, 14MP won't be wasted.

  3. Nice Freudian slip there. They are indeed marrying as well as marring. :)

  4. It's too big to put this sensor for mobile solution..--;
