PCO DR whitepaper compiles a table comparing various image sensors DR. The rolling shutter BAE sCMOS sensor outperforms all global shutter alternatives on DR:
Dear all, the white paper was made to explain the term "dynamic" or "dynamic range", which is often used in a different relation. The selected image sensors are just examples to demonstrate different values of dynamic range, they are not meant to be a state of the art overview. The article is about dynamic range, and it is more then the above extracted table, it is not a general article about quality parameters of cameras, therefore the above mentioned missing parameters like QE, MTF which might be as important or even more depending on the application, are not matter of discussion. Best regards, Gerhard
Why IMX174 and not a newer one with lower read noise?
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd generation Pregius sensors have actually a lower noise, but the fw is also lower, hence the DR is quite the same (74dB)
Delete- dkf
Also important to note rolling shutter Vs. global shutter operation of the sensors.
ReplyDeleteQuantum efficiency is also missing...
DeleteIf all they care about is DR, then this is ok.
ReplyDeleteIf they are trying to imply that the sensor is "better", then they are "ignoring" (or hising?) a rather large set of parameters :
QE
Linearity
MTF
ulens performance at low f-numbers (<2.0)
