3D Camera News

PMD Youtube video shows what it says the smallest depth-sensing camera for close range gesture recognition. The CamBoard nano reference design measures 37x30x25mm - still too much to be integrated into laptop lid:

China Daily reports that Beijing eedoo Technology Ltd said the company's first multimedia entertainment console is set to hit the Chinese market on April 29, at a price of 3,799 yuan ($600) per unit. eedoo uses SoftKinetic ToF camera to control games in a similar way to Microsoft's Kinect. Good news for SoftKinetic which finally can get big sales after multiple delays!

  1. I cannot see the 3D effect. It looks like a simple 2D intensity map due to LED attenuation according to distance.

  2. It's reasonable that on the left window is the depth information illustrated by coloured scale (blue correspondend to far distance, red to near distance) The right window illustrates the intensity image (greyscale value).
I agree that nanoboard is quite to much to be integrated. Specially the lens is to much, while I can imagine that the rest (excluding led) might be integrated in an advanced chip. At 1:46min you can imagine that the components between both printed circuit boards might be for power supply. Would it be possible to publish the effective power dissipation at 90 fps?

  3. From the pictures I've seen it seems that eedoo is using PrimeSense technology. Can anyone confirm this?

    1. Eedoo uses Softkinetic camera, it's officially announced:

    2. I know that they announced it ...
But take a look at the official photos : http://www.eedoo.cn/
You don't need this many lenses for ToF. To me this looks alot like the Asus Xtion Pro Live!

    3. Yes, agree, 3 optical openings look too much. If I'd have to guess, they have ToF illuminator in a separate window separated from the ToF sensor - something like in PMD video above.

    4. Maybe light source, ToF sensor, and color sensor.

    5. Eedoo uses PrimeSense... take a look at the new and official photos of the iSec console - it's Primesense. The official announcements of eedoo to use Softkinetic are old and were published before those several launch delays. Rumours say, that Softkinetic's hardware was not stable enough - thus they needed to change the hardware setup to something more reliable.

  4. EEDOO uses all the 3D technologies in the world. China market is so attractive, so all the guys go there to provide their technologies.
