DxOMark Over The Years and Generations

Luminous Landscape published a trend analysis of DxOMark sensor database by Peter van den Hamer. The analysis nicely demos a steady sensor performance improvement over the years. Some of the modern 1/1.7-inch and even 1/2.33-inch sensors reach the same aggregate score as DSLRs from 2003 - rather impressive progress.

  1. Nice article with interesting data from the big camera application area. Too bad he uses lambda as a symbol for full well, especially as a physicist. But, I don't think anyone will be confused for long.

Another useful link from ISW blog!

  2. In a version for DxOMark.com (http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Publications/DxOMark-Reviews/DxOMark-Camera-Sensor2) I changed the lambda to a generic N. The lambda was used because the article includes an explanation of the Poisson distribution.
