Yole on Market Shares

Yole Developpement publishes the 2012 market shares, based on revenue (click to enlarge):

  1. what is this? a picture for ants?

  2. Not ants, just bad forecasting and surveying. This is in fact laughable it is so far from being real. DSLR's accounted for 9M units WW last year, split among 3 top tier OEMs with "others" accounting for <5%. MILC accounted for about 10-12M WW last year. Canon sold <5% of those from a single model. DSC, point and shoot and compact accounted for 60-70M, depending on who you listen to. Canon's share has been shrinking to Nikon in DSLR over the past 3 years. There is no way in hell Canon has 9% CIS WW market share compared to a 470M unit + WW mobile market. That leaves Canon with 4% best. I strongly believe also that Sony's share is much larger than this stated.
