i-Micronews: Steve Jobs announced that the next generation iPhone 4 will have 5MP BSI sensor based on 1.75um pixels. The sensor also supports 720p/30fps HD video.
CNet speculates that the sensor is made by Sony, and that HD video in iPhone can affect Cisco Flip camcorder sales.
Is that the LG ?

ReplyDeleteIs Anonymous joking ? Aptina in Apple ? It was in May in this blog that reference was made to Aptina's YouTube video on their "Strategy on BSI", in which they claimed that BSI was not ready for Prime Time. If Apple's iPhone4 is not Prime Time for BSI, what is ?

It's an Omnivision OV5650.
ReplyDeleteNo other sensor maker is anywhere near being able to produce a 1.75µ 5MP BSI module, let alone 24 million of them.
Aptina don't mass produce BSI modules.
I estimate it is OV5653...

1.75um pixel doesn't need a BSI technology: this is just a marketing move. A good 1.75um pixel FSI can easily reach such performance as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm very interesting on dark current performance (or bright pixels if you prefer) and SNR.
At this point, it is definetily better to have an high resolution 1.4um FSI pixel instead of a 5MP only at the same price. And yes, this is not an APTINA sensor (the pixel target size for the BSI mass production is the 1.1um), best guess OMNI, but I cannot exclude also SONY.
