PR Newswire: Omnivision introduces the OV3660, the company's first 3MP sensor based on BSI pixel architecture: "We continue to see a strong market shift in the feature phone and entry-level smart phone segments from 2- to 3-megapixel resolutions consistent with increasing consumer demand for quality and functionality," said Charles Chong, product marketing manager for OmniVision. "Implementing OmniBSI technology at the 3-megapixel resolution allows... to facilitate easy migration from existing 2-megapixel camera designs from a manufacturing standpoint."
The OV3660's form factor permits direct insertion into an industry-standard 6.5 x 6.5 mm module, enabling a quick and easy upgrade from current 2-megapixel camera designs. The sensor is now sampling and is expected to enter mass production in Q3 2011.
Couldn't one fit a FSI 1.75um 3 MP sensor into a 6.5mm module?
ReplyDeleteIf the 1.75um sensor has better performance than the BSI 1.4um one at a likely lower cost, I don't see where this module fits into the market unless you go to a smaller module.
I guess keeping the 6.5mm footprint with a smaller sensor (1/5") would still allow one to decrease the module's overall height.
