Brigates Published Datasheet of Smallest Pixel Sensor with Global Shutter

Kunshan, China-based company Brigates (Rui Xin in Chinese) published datasheet of what appears to be the world's smallest pixel sensor having global shutter, the BG0316. The 3.2um pixel VGA sensor has 120fps speed and offers 40dB SNR and 65dB DR.

The company information form its web site in automatic Google translation:

"Sharp Microelectronics Co., Ltd. Kunshan core returned by the three PhD students in February 2008, Overseas Students Pioneer Park, Kunshan Development Zone set up. In just three years history, nine have been successfully developed CMOS image sensor chip, including the world's first high-speed infrared three-dimensional image sensor chip; China's first five-pixel image sensor chip high-speed parallel; the first 2008 models with 130-nanometer manufacturing process designed image sensor chip. As of the end of 2010, has been successfully industrialized 5 chip, the cumulative sales of more than 10 million pieces, CMOS image sensors in consumer chip market to establish a place to develop a stable customer base.

Kunshan sharp core of the nation's largest online supplier of sporting goods online i-Dong Taishan somatosensory ordered a man-machine interactive gaming chips in 2010, the product has been assigned to the National Olympic Park and the Shanghai World Expo Park, the major domestic and international media including Reuters Agency, CCTV 1 set, 2 sets of this program are a wide range of product coverage and improved business visibility and market reputation. 2011, recently introduced a new generation of consumer image sensor chip on a global scale the highest price.

The company has applied for 44 patents (14 authorized), five utility model patents (authorized 4), 12 integrated circuit layout protection, and two software copyrights.

  1. If one can make a 4T pixel of 1um, I think it should be easy to make a 3.2um 5T pixel.

  2. They say the sensor can work in rolling and global shutter mode. Then they don't specify if the 65dB of dynamic range is in rolling or global shutter mode. I'm almost sure it is rolling shutter. I agree with the previous comment...

  3. 0.1mV/s dark signal with 30uV/e conversion gain, it means 3e per pixel per second.... ~2pA/cm2

  4. 0.1mV/s, 30uV/e... - where did you find these numbers?

  6. reading the pdf linked by the last anon: if the full well capacity is 40000e-, how can they claim a max SNR of 54dB??? My calculator sais 46dB....Is the q/sqrt(q) formula not valid anymore :P ?

  7. it's a chinese style datasheet :)

  8. Note, this is a different sensor having 6um pixels. It seems to have an integrated ISP, may be with noise reduction. 54dB SNR might be measured after ISP - just a guess.

  9. Indeed, it is a chinese Sun Tzu style datasheet.

  10. "Please refrain from personal attacks."

    Let's extend this to personal/national/racial!

  11. I fully agree and extend this restriction.

  12. Well this is NOT a personal attack at all. If you look carefully the datasheet, there are a lot of contradictory data.

  13. Yes, talking about contradictory data is not a personal attack. My objection is against the comments about "chinese style" and similar. This can qualified as racial or national attack. So I'm asking people to refrain from such statements.

Being an international forum, we need to be sensitive to other people feeling. I recall another case some time ago when a seemingly innocent joke about one of the European countries provoked quite angry reaction from a respectable person from this country.

  14. But joking about Norwegians must be ok, they have so much oil and winter olympics gold medals!?!

  15. Official China release on Confucius Prize relative to Nobel Peace Prize. Is this joking about Norwegians?

"China is a symbol of peace, meanwhile it owns the absolute power to uphold peace. With over 1 billion people, it should have a greater voice on the issue of world peace. In essence, Norway is only a small country with scarce land area and population, but it must be in the minority in terms of other relatively large numbers concerning the conception of freedom and democracy. Hence, the selection of the "Nobel Peace Prize" should open [sic] to the people in the world instead of engaging in "minority" type of the [sic] so-called presumption."

  16. Nobel peace priz is, in most of the cases, a joke! That is why chinese governement sets up a confucious priz, it's the same poltical joke as well.

  17. Guys - you need to read the fine print.

On the first page on the datasheet it says "BG0316 also incorporates an experiment mode of 32 line global exposure mode."
And looking deeper into the datasheet it says regarding the VSIZE register "The window height size.In global shutter mode it must be 0x20"

Therefore the global shutter is valid for only the first 32 lines - not a big catch at all.

    E.P.
