Low Cost IR Imagers Coming

Lapis Semiconductor (Oki Semi spin-off) comes with a low-cost and low resolution thermopile-based image sensor, the ML8540WD:


Meanwhile, for quite a some time Melexis has been selling its own low-cost IR sensor, the 16 x 4 pixel MLX90620. The sensor features in Youtube video:



MicroMountains Applications AG, Germany publishes a popular review of low-cost 3D and IR sensor technologies. Here is the comparison of thermal IR approaches:

    Every time I see the word "thermopile" I think its a really bad hemorrhoid problem rather than a sensor.
