Intel on Camera Communications

Rick Roberts from Intel Labs presented "On Study Group Status for Camera Communications" at IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs):

  1. We looked at this about a decade ago. Seems like a good idea but filled with problems. Even at 120fps, the baud rate is quite low. The camera has to spatially track that source, so it knows which pixels contain the transmitted data. QR codes have a higher data density and need only a single frame. I'm all for the idea but it seems even less convenient than 2D bar codes.
