Gpixel: A team of CMOS image sensors industry veterans creates Gpixel NV. Gpixel NV is structured as a privately-held company and started operation on August 9th, 2018 providing turn-key solutions to industrial and professional markets ranging from sensor design, prototyping, characterization and packaging to qualification and volume production.
Gpixel NV founders are Tim Baeyens, Tim Blanchaert, Jan Bogaerts, Bart Ceulemans and Wim Wuyts. Together they have more than 75 person-years of relevant experience in CMOS imaging technology, development, operations and commercialization. Gpixel NV is set up with financial and operational backing of Gpixel Inc. (Gpixel Changchun Optotech), a CMOS sensor supplier based in Changchun, China, founded by Xinyang Wang in 2012.
“Imaging and CMOS image sensors are ubiquitous today,” states Tim Baeyens, CEO of Gpixel NV. “Nevertheless, there is still a strong need for dedicated companies such as Gpixel to address high end markets like industrial and professional imaging. Through our wide industry network and strong collaboration with Gpixel Inc, we anticipate growing Gpixel rapidly to become one of the key players in solid state imaging.”
Xinyang Wang, founder and CEO of Gpixel Inc. states, “I am very pleased to join forces with Gpixel NV to grow Gpixel to become a dominant player in our application areas. I am also convinced that the addition of Jan Bogaerts as Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Wim Wuyts as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) for Gpixel worldwide will foster our company’s innovation and global sales significantly.”
Wow, Gpixel CIS performance will definitely enhance by these global intelligent talents.
ReplyDeletewonderful and from Belgium, super!!
ReplyDeleteGpixel CEO Wang XinYang bio reads "...image sensor expert/partner at CMOSIS N.V. from 2008 - 2012 ...."

Yes, this is a sort of reunion
Deletehuge loss for CMOSIS though, I guess probably all founders except Guy have left CMOSIS
ReplyDeleteRIP cmosis
ReplyDeletesmart people always leave the ship before it sinks
ReplyDeleteThe most promising CIS company & union!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck

ReplyDelete"to address high end markets like industrial and professional imaging" Are they targeting the 2 main customers of CMOSIS ?
ReplyDeleteThese guys have the same strategy for years. But they played crazily well!
DeleteThese guys have been thriving on focus and differentiation. In order to succeed once again, they will need reliable access to advanced manufacturing techniques like <65nm, BSI and 3D stacking…
ReplyDeleteWe have.
DeleteI dont know if you follow the posts here. There were a few recently that show that Gpixel collaborates with Towerjazz/Panasonic - as well as Cmosis did and does (I suppose), as well as other fabless image sensor companies do. There is only a little number of foundries on the globe that can offer advanced CIS production capabilities.
DeleteI can understand this step personaly (even though I dont know anything about the atmosphere in ams..., most likely my imagination based on personal experience in a completely different company is wrong). A group of enthusiastic image sensor guys find themself being integrated in a bigcompany and suddenly they are working for processes, quartelery reports and all their enthusiam for what? For a few % of dividend that gets paid mainly to people that have no relationshipt to what they do (thats whats one of the worst experiences for me - technology does not get recognized, the one and only thing that counts is the quarter result vs. the last. For the fonds guys its no difference if you make toilet paper or image sensors as long as the money gets droped into the large never enough throat. And if the exponential growth stops for a quarter people get fired just because the ceo wants to report this. The atmosphere of enthusiasm stops and you get opportunists that fight for goals even though they know are wrong - for stock options, just because this goals are linked to this options... You are forced to work with tools you know that are not the right tools - just because of a strategic decision of the group. You start getting the feeling that all your enthusiasm produces wattless power. I think a group of enthusiastic guys from belgium will produce better results within Gpixel than within ams. Great products are ahead, the price/performance of machine vision sensors will be on a different level once they are out. I am looking forward to design some of this image sensors in ;-)
DeleteI am confident that ams knows what they are doing, by letting the most talented and experienced people simply leave. For sure they have a long therm plan, otherwise sooner than later this new company will eat their market share in Industrial and Digital Photography , and then CIS Business acquisition will become a huge loss to present to share holders .
ReplyDeleteTim B. best wishes on your new venture -MJ
ReplyDeleteThank you Mike.
