Aptina Shows Global Shutter Advantages

Engineering TV features Aptina's promotional video showing global shutter advantages over rolling shutter. The demo is carefully designed to make this advantage most evident.

  1. I didn't think so. It looks like a fair example of global shutter. If they were doing the distorted fan trick, or looking out the side of a moving vehicle, then perhaps you could say that. Anyway, my opinion is different from yours. And nice video, Caleb!

  2. If cars in the video move much faster, both images would come out blurred. If cars move much slower, again the difference would be less evident. The illumination is chosen in such a way that the shutter speed is much faster then the curtain speed, otherwise the difference would be less. In short, any change in illumination or speed would make the difference less evident.

  3. EF, just to clarify, by saying the demo is carefully staged, I did not mean something negative. To show almost any advantage in image sensors, one needs to arrange the demo with great care. Like, if one sensor has 10x DR advantage, it's not easily seen in any picture, and if excessive DR is just compressed for display, the image looks dull and actually worse than the regular DR sensor. Or to demo advantages of high speed sensor one needs to think how. So, I see no problem in staging the demo.

  4. OK, I agree then. Thanks for clarifying.
