Canon Files for Dual-Scale Column-Parallel ADC Patent

Canon's patent application US20130206961 "Solid-State Image Sensing Device" by Ikeda Yasuji, Hashimoto Seiji, Muto Takashi, Matsuno Yasushi, and Yoshida Daisuke describes a dual gain column-parallel ramp ADC (Reference Signal 1 & 2 are the two different scale ramps):

  2. Given how long it takes for a patent application to show up, and the time taken to actually create and define the implementation, it's not so likely that Canon was "beaten" to it.

  3. Anonymous is correct. Plus Canon had an earlier patent dealing with some of this stuff in 2010. Plus ML never came up with their idea in the first place anyway. Someone on DPR came up with the scheme and was talking about it at length way before ML did it. (If anything Canon got the idea from the DPR guy, not from ML).
