MIT Image Processing Ideas

The Institute publishes an article on MIT low power ISP presented at the recent ISSCC. There are five unique features of the new ISP:
  • Very low power consumption
  • Hardware implemented bilateral filtering. Consumes 17.8mW per megapixel at 0.9 V supply (not clear what's the frame rate)
  • Fast HDR imaging based on 3 frame combination, processes 10MP image in few hundred ms. Said to be fast enough for video. (Sony too supports HDR video for quite a some time)
  • Low light picture improvement by a combination of flash and ambient illuminated images (in development now)
  • Optical glare reduction
