DPReview quotes Nvidia blog presenting a joint research with MIT and Aalto University on AI-enhanced noise removal with pretty impressive results:

  1. Looks terrific. Not sure how much of this needs Poisson noise vs. Gaussian noise, but could mean we can return to 3T sensors in the future, and then easy enough to fix photos in the cloud. Still the Koala detail is "fuzzy" but still amazing compared to the input image. Energy per pixel? Time lag? Minimum SNR in input image? <1? And, helps answer my age-old question, how come I don't see shot noise under low light?

  2. Link to paper (well hidden on Nvidia site): https://arxiv.org/pdf/1803.04189.pdf

  3. Would be super interesting to see how it handles astrophotography ;)
