Image Sensor Packaging Video

AIM Micro Systems publishes a promotional video showing different technologies and equipment involved in image sensor packaging:


  1. Quite impressive (especially the large stitched sensors), apart from the guy putting on his nitrile gloves AFTER entering the clean room!

    Actually this is not stitching, but tiling : pieces of silicon are put together. Stitching is done during the lithographic steps of the wafer production and that is here not the case in the movie. To make things a bit more complicated : most probably stitching is applied to realize the large-area devices and then later they are tiled together to make 40cm x 40cm detectors. The tiling in shown in the movie.

  3. A lot of image sensors / cameras are involved in the production of image sensors. Most of the machines visible in the video use cameras for alignment and inspection tasks
