Smartsens Announces 9MP APS-C Sensor with 3D Stacked Voltage Domain Global Shutter

Smartsens launches a 9MP Global Shutter sensor product for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications, the SC910GS. Also, the previously launched 4MP SC410GS targets the same market.

Ma Weijian, Smartsens COO, says (in Google automatic translation): "Due to the complexity of pixel structure and process, Global Shutter, especially the large-format Global Shutter technology, is more challenging to design, so in the past it was mainly monopolized by foreign technology.

Smartsens innovative use of Voltage Domain SmartGS technology has realized the development and mass production of the industry’s first BSI/3D stack BSI Global Shutter image sensor. With the first-generation SmartGS technology, breakthroughs in sensitivity, wide dynamics, and short exposure time control have been achieved. Based on the first-generation Global Shutter’s successful products, Smartsens has now become the leader in global Shutter CIS shipments.

The SC910GS and SC410GS released this time are based on the second-generation SmartGS technology is a breakthrough product for high-end applications. It is another successful breakthrough for domestic companies in the field of large-size and large-resolution Global Shutter chips. It strives to reduce light pollution, empower all-weather applications and intelligent upgrade applications for intelligent transportation applications. A weapon!

In addition, SmartGS' third-generation SmartGS technology is also under development, and its sensitivity, noise optimization and wide dynamic performance will be further improved. I look forward to seeing you with this technology this year!"

Both SC910GS and SC410GS are sampling now.

Another Smartsens' presentation talks about automotive sensors market and the company's HDR with LED Flicker Suppression (LFS) solution:

Because absolute numbers are not given (again and again), at least it would be nice to know to which device/technology/company the comparison is made when improvements in performance are shown. Are all 4 parameters compared to the same device or were 4 different devices used in the comparison ? Was the reference a recent device or something of 25 years ago ? With such a relative comparison as shown here, you can prove everything and anything. If the real performance of the Smartsens devices are really that outstanding, why is Smartsens then so afraid of giving us hard data ?

    1. I can't read Chinese on their pictures, but it appears that they compare it with their 1st generation GS sensors.
I've added a snapshot from their flyer that gives some performance numbers.

I neither ..., but it is maybe not too late to start learning ...

    3. From the slides, they compare with their own that without LFS.

    1. I have a feeling that Chinese tech companies never get the credit they deserve -because of where they are located.

Negative perception still has a long life, but the truth is many western semicon companies can learn from Gpixel, SmartSens, etc...

Just look at the adoption of their products and their growth - it speaks for itself

Your remark does not hold for me. Chinese vendors are also my customers, most of my PhD students are Chinese as well. But I absolutely do not like this marketing stuff of playing benchmark magic without any solid figures and numbers. It does not matter which vendor it is, I have these complaints against ALL of them who do it this way. If you followed my comments on this great blog, you should know better.

    3. Its NOT the industry’s first BSI/3D stack BSI Global Shutter sensor.......
      don't forget OmniVision.

    4. Or Olympus... or actually a few more. Albeit mostly not commercially available - especially not in mass production.
