Phase One Features Medium Format Sony Sensor

Cnet, Luminous Landscape, Digital Transitions report that the new Phase One IQ250 medium format digital camera back features 50MP Sony CMOS sensor. The sensor size is 44mm x 33mm (1.3x MF crop factor)and it offers 14-stops DR.

Luminous Landscape also says that the Hasselblad H5D-50C uses the same Sony sensor.

  1. Pixel size@ ~5.4 micron appears to be somewhere in between existing sony designs bigger than the 36 MP, and smaller than 24 MP. Also some of the sites mention "strong" microlenses giving strange results when used with technical cameras. Something which may have connection with incident ray angle and glass filters in front of the sensor. Common problem with Sony's latest high pixel count photo sensors.
