Teledyne e2v Unveils the Industry’s Smallest Global Shutter 2MP & 1.5MP CMOS Sensors

GlobeNewswireTeledyne e2v introduces its Topaz series of industrial CMOS sensors with new 2MP and 1.5MP resolution devices. These 1920 x 1080 and 1920 x 800-pixel format sensors feature 2.5um low noise, global-shutter pixel and housed in a tiny 4.45 mm wide CSP.

Gareth Powell, Marketing Manager for CMOS Sensors at Teledyne e2v said, “Modern logistics, retail, and manufacturing applications all require enhanced productivity and throughput, with longer working ranges. The new Topaz sensors were developed with this in mind, offering an excellent cost/performance ratio for high volume adoption. They also have a tiny footprint making them ideal to drive the world’s smallest barcode OEM engines and thinnest mobile platforms.

Samples and evaluation kits are available now.

Key Features

  • Advanced 2.5µm x 2.5µm global shutter pixel
  • Low readout noise of 3.3e- (typ)
  • Low dark signal for good high temp performance
  • Frame rate of >100 fps in 8 bit output mode
  • 2 lane MIPI outputs (1.2Gpix/sec each)
  • Fast Wake Up mode – decode within 10ms after power up and other useful application features

  1. What are the exact dimensions?
It seems 4.45mm is the smallest dimension of the smallest resolution.
If it's the case, it's not the smallest Global Shutter sensor.
    Others did smaller GS ones.

    1. This is e2v's claim. I'm too puzzled by this statement.

  2. Product page is here: https://imaging.teledyne-e2v.com/products/2d-cmos-image-sensors/topaz/. There are 2 models 1920x800 and 1920x1080. Pixelpitch is 2.5u, so 1920 translate into 4.8mm. The folder talks of 7.65x4.45mm package dimension: https://imaging.teledyne-e2v.com/content/uploads/2021/09/2021-09-09_e2v_Topaz-Family_Spec-Sheet_web.pdf
Being the smallest or not, this seems to me quite an interesting product at the lower end of global shutter industrial sensors.

    1. it is FSI but implement a light pipe to increase QE

  4. Not sure about e2v and FSI, but

The smallest Global shutter is a 1.5Mp with only 4.3mm x3.6mm!

It's a more advanced techno with BSI+stacking 40nm, so high performance pixel global shutter.

Also another one, the smallest ever global shutter 640x600 in 2.6mm x 2.5mm only.
