Baird: Omnivision to Supply Sensors for iPad 3 and iPad mini

Reuters: Baird expects Omnivision to supply a 5MP sensor for the rear camera and a 1MP sensor for the front camera of the iPad3. Baird also said Omnivision may supply sensors for an upcoming iPad mini.

The brokerage expects Sony to remain the rear-camera supplier of the iPhone5, but believes OmniVision could be a potential second supplier.

  1. If Omnivision is fading out of Apple,, why Apple hired tens of image sensor designer in last two month?

  3. LOL...Aptina can never be in the game...Aptina is a good textbook case of good engineers not making good management!

  4. How does Apple hiring sensor designers relate to Omnivision?

  5. if apple has own sensor designers, it does not need to use sensor design firm omnivision. and aptina is a good firm.

I can't understand the "aptina is a good firm" part..

  8. Can someone explain to me why aptina seems to be the focus of so much negativity here?

  12. from january 20, 2012 needham analyst report based on supply checks:

We are lowering our estimates based on our checks that OVTI has lost the image sensor socket on Apple’s next-generation iPad 3 HD to Samsung. We believe the iPad 3 will include a 5MP sensor for the back-camera and will support HD resolution. Our industry checks point to Samsung winning the socket based on price competitiveness rather than better quality/technology.

if it's a samsung part in back of new ipad, it could be this part:

i hope it's not the ovt part that was in the iphone 4 because it had a real problem w/ too much yellow in stills in low light especially.

i'd like to see samsung get into other prominent phones and devices
besides their own. and i do like ovt for their vga and low resolution because that seems to be where they belong when it comes to supplying high volume customers.

sorry to see a lot of these stock trader types polluting this board.

ps: i like the technical crew at ovt, i just don't like some of the top management because of the hype, and misleading information they disseminate.

  13. I don't understand the continuous anti-Aptina screed. It's a little like talking to someone who, no matter what the conversation topic, always tries to bring it around to band camp, their bladder infection, or how Obama is ruining everything.

  14. Is there any possibility to adopt Samsung sensor in near future?

  15. I don't mind reading disparaging remarks about Aptina or any other company from anonymous cowards. What bothers me is that they don't put any effort into it. Where's the cruel imagery and biting metaphors? Why can't they string together some scathing satire or brutal sarcasm? So far the level of criticism hasn't even risen above a five dollar shill. I know anonymous can do better than that.
