Sony Explains Advantages of its Polarization Sensors for Traffic Cameras

Sony Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) page has been updated to explain the advantages of its PolarSens sensors for face recognition on the roads:

Sony also publishes a video demo showing the improvement (and another one):

  1. Is this similar to:
    https://moxtek.com/optics-product/pixelated-polarizer/
    with 4 polarization angle?

    1. Yes, quite similar. So, any company can come to Moxtek and get a polarized version of its image sensor, right?

What about microlens on top of the polarizers? Does Moxtek add them too?

  2. This type of sensor has some issues: 1. low QE (theoretically <50%), the higher the extinction ratio(the better the polarization filtering), the even lower the QE; 2. The polarization filter orientation on sensors are fixed, and thus might not always work well in removing polarized light coming in other orientations.

    1. It also appears noise is significantly higher with the applied processing.
